General Appearance.
An outgoing active dog of medium height with an intelligent expression, showing strength without being heavily built and fast without being thin.

Typical characteristics.
Blessed with a natural talent to be gundog, with an eager and friendly expression shown by its wagging tail.

Temperament.
Full of confidence and friendliness.

Head and skull.
The head should be shaped long. The skull should be flat and moderately broad with a slight indentation or stop between the eyes, not in any way accentuated, so that the impression of a sharply sloping noseline as well as that of a turned-up nose is avoided.
The muzzle is of decent proportion with wide nostrils. The jaw should be long and muscular to allow for the carrying of a hare or a pheasant.

Eyes.
The eyes should be of medium size, dark brown or hazel, with a very intelligent expression (a  bulging eye is undesirable). They should not be placed askew.


Ears
.
The ears should be relatively small and lie close to the side of the head.

Teeth.
Strong muscular jaws with a perfect (complete) set of of healthy teeth, that is to say that the upper teeth should fit smoothly over the bottom row of teeth and are placed straight into the jaw.

Neck.
The head should be positioned well on the neck, the latter being relatively long and untrimmed. The neck should be in proportion and flow well into the back enabling a comfortable search posture.

Forehand.
The chest should be deep and moderately broad with a clear brisket alongside which the elbows move freely and evenly. The forelegs should be straight with high quality bone.

Body.
The frontal ribs should be relatively flat. The well-ribbed torso shows gradually more rounded ribs, the middle ribs being well curved and the end ribs slightly less. The sides should be short and angular. Long sides are frowned upon.

Hind Quarter.
Should be muscular. The knee and heel should be moderately angular, the latter close to the surface. Its position should be straight at all times.

Feet.
Should be rounded and strong with the toes tight together and well arched. The soles should be padded well and strong.

Tail.
Moderate length, straight, well set on, held enthusiastically and straight off the topline.

Gait.
Efficient, straight and powerful, as seen from the side and the front.

Coat.
Should be dense, its structure fine to middle fine, of high quality and as flat as possible. Legs and tail to be thickly feathered, because the feathering on an adult dog completes the elegant image of a good dog.

Color.
Black or liver.

Proportion.
When in prime condition, the following weights are preferred:

Males 25-35 kilos (60-80lbs), females 22,5-30 kilos (50-70lbs)

Also, the following heights are preferred:

Males 58-61 cm (23-24 inch), females 55-58 cm (22-23 inch)

Discrepancies.
Each variation to the abovementioned subjects should be regarded a discrepancy which then should be rated in proportion to the seriousness of the discrepancy.

Observation.
Males should have two clearly normal testicles, which have completely descended into the scrotum.
